Philharmonie de Paris: lessons from an exceptional project
27 February 2025

Some sites are unlike any other. The Philharmonie de Paris is one of them. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the building has become a landmark of the Paris skyline. Ateliers Jean Nouvel used Archireport for part of the monitoring of this extraordinary project.
This account shows what a project of this scale demands in terms of site monitoring, and what a digital tool brings when coordination becomes a daily challenge.
The Philharmonie de Paris, an extraordinary project
Set in the Parc de la Villette, the Philharmonie opened in 2015. The building rises more than 50 metres, with a rooftop walkway 37 metres up offering a panoramic view over Paris.
Its envelope of aluminium scales and its mineral forms make it a truly original piece of architecture. The main concert hall meets extreme acoustic requirements, serving the resident orchestras. The project also includes many spaces dedicated to education and culture.
On a site of this scale, every detail counts. The acoustics, the complex geometry and the HQE environmental approach leave no room for approximation.
The challenge of monitoring a project of this size
The bigger the site, the more critical monitoring becomes. Dozens of trades, thousands of points to check, highly specialised technical requirements: the slightest piece of lost information can be costly.
Coordination is the real challenge here. Every party has to know exactly what is expected of them, on which trade package and by when. In practice, on a project like the Philharmonie, the volume of observations, snags and photos quickly exceeds what paper-based monitoring can handle.
Traceability matters just as much. On a building subject to very high environmental and acoustic requirements, you need to be able to document and justify what was seen, requested and approved.
How Archireport supports this kind of project

Archireport is designed for the field, for architects, site managers and project managers.
With Notes & photos, each observation is placed on a plan, illustrated with a photo and assigned to a trade package or a contractor. Thanks to the automatic site report, the visit report is created in one click and quickly sent to the right people. With monitoring & scheduling, you can track the project’s progress precisely, trade by trade.
In practice, the app stops information from getting scattered. On a site with many parties involved, keeping a single clear source of information is a decisive factor for success.
Why site monitoring matters
The Philharmonie is an extreme case, but the needs it reveals apply to every site, even the most modest.
Clear monitoring, well-described snags, fast site reports and a reliable history: these habits make the difference on a detached house as much as on a concert hall. On any site, what really makes the difference is monitoring that is clear, regular and shared by everyone.
